But before we get to the name, let’s start with our story → let’s go.
After finishing our first degrees – law and art history (you can guess who studied what) – Klara and I made a crazy decision to move to Belgium and try our luck in design and UX.

The plan was simple: Klara → designer, me → UX researcher. But the reality check hit us faster than we expected – the first year was a constant battle with code and that never-ending feeling of we have no idea what we’re doing. Over time, though, something shifted and – fun fact – programming became something I can’t imagine working without anymore.

The funniest part? At the beginning we weren’t even sure if we’d like each other. Klara thought I was too serious and stiff, and I couldn’t figure out how she could talk so much and keep joking nonstop. And yet – the saying that opposites attract turned out to be 100% true, because with time we became an inseparable duo, almost like sisters.

And that’s where VEJF really begins. One day, during a typical procrastination session, we joked: “What if we started our own creative studio?” At the time it sounded like total nonsense (you know – still at unil, lacking confidence, full of doubts), but deep down the idea was already growing: why not?

In our second year we always worked together. And in the third, we rented a flat together (number 5). Even though it was just an ordinary apartment, to us it quickly became something more. We started calling it Studio 5, and that’s where we spent countless hours talking, joking, and dreaming about running our own business.

But talk is just talk, so eventually we realized that nothing would happen unless we took the leap. So… whatever – we had to risk it. Even if it would be hard, we wanted to do what we love on our own terms. And that’s when the big question showed up – the one that kept us up at night: “Okay, but what do we call our studio?”

Brainstorming was a nightmare. A whole month of throwing out weird names, and none of them felt right. We kept joking that the hardest part of building a studio wasn’t the work itself, but… just coming up with a decent name. Because what if we’d get bored of it? Or what if it was so random that we’d never be able to explain it to anyone?

And then Klara just went: “What about VEJF?”
My reaction: “But what is that even supposed to mean?”
And Klara: “Girl, it’s just 5 in Dutch (vijf), but we’ll twist it a little. Because that’s us → Studio 5.”

That was the moment I knew – this was it.
A name that ties together our experiences and memories. On the one hand, our studies in Belgium that brought us together (hence the Dutch reference), and on the other – the number of our apartment: 5.

From that moment on, VEJF wasn’t just a bunch of random letters anymore – it became part of our lives.
And honestly – today we can’t imagine calling it anything else, because VEJF is our core.

Fast forward → here we are.
We’ve got our own studio. We work with clients, create cool projects, code, design, and step by step we’re making our dreams happen. We still laugh, we still argue about fonts and about what can (or can’t) be done in development. We keep learning new things and pushing each other forward.

For us, VEJF is more than just a name or a company. It’s our shared space – one that grows and evolves together with us.

Because we can’t do it any other way.

From the very beginning, we knew we didn’t want to create half-hearted work or projects that no one remembers. Design doesn’t have to be boring, and development doesn’t have to be purely technical.

For us, the most exciting things happen when aesthetics meet technology and playfulness intertwines with strategy. VEJF is the space where we can bring all of that together – experimenting, pushing boundaries, and learning even from our weirdest fuckups.
